Oral history

Most interviews are between 3 and 4 hours long. My fee of $2000 per interview covers research, travel (but not flights or accommodation - that would be extra), recording the interview and producing a detailed time-coded summary of the contents (an abstract).

You would receive the original recording on DVD and as many copies as you need on CD and/or USB stick, along with the abstract as a hard copy and as an electronic file.

For your information, this is the interview process:

First of all, I will do some general background research. I will then go and see the interviewee to talk about the project and gather more information that will be used to focus the questions during the interview. This session will not be recorded.

I will then return to record the interview at a later date.

If the interview is to be archived at a public institution, the interviewee will be asked to sign a recording agreement form which I would discuss with them at the first meeting.

Writing

I charge $75 an hour for short projects.

Fees will be negotiated for book-length projects.
